Only if it was in your last backup. WhatsApp can't recover a deleted message for you, and it restores whole backups, not single messages: you reinstall WhatsApp, restore, and lose everything after that backup. No app can reach into WhatsApp afterwards. For the next one, a notification history keeps messages as they arrive.
What WhatsApp can and can't bring back
WhatsApp's own help pages are blunt: it can't recover deleted messages for you. A deleted message only comes back if it is in a backup, and a backup comes back whole, never one message at a time.
On Android that backup lives in your Google Account (WhatsApp is also testing a cloud storage of its own). It runs daily, weekly or monthly, or only when you tap Back up, from Settings > Chats > Chat backup. Each new backup replaces the previous one, so only the latest can ever be restored.
There is no undelete for one message. There is only the last backup, all or nothing.
Restoring from a backup, and what it costs
The price is everything newer than that backup. WhatsApp says messages sent and received after the latest backup can't be restored, so a restore made to rescue one message deletes the rest of today. If the backup is end-to-end encrypted, you also need its password, passkey or 64-digit key. And WhatsApp doesn't say how a message deleted for everyone behaves after a restore, so treat this as a last resort, not a method.
- 01Open Settings > Chats > Chat backup and look at the time of the last backup. It can only help if that backup ran after the message arrived and before it was deleted.
- 02If it did, don't let another backup run, because the next one replaces it.
- 03Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp, verify the same phone number, and choose Restore with the same Google Account.
What about "recovery" apps?
Android keeps each app's private storage closed to other apps, so an app you install today can't open WhatsApp's chats and pull out yesterday's deleted message. What an app can do is keep notifications from now on, as they arrive.
- ✕Bring back a message that was never in a backup and never shown in a notification.
- ✕Restore one message out of a backup without restoring the whole thing.
- ✕Recover an older Google backup that a newer one has replaced.
What "Delete for everyone" really does
A sender can delete a message for everyone for up to two days after sending it. In the chat it turns into "This message was deleted", or "This message was deleted by admin" when a group admin removed it. WhatsApp itself warns that recipients may already have seen it, and that deleting can fail without saying so.
"Delete for me" gives you five seconds to tap Undo. After that, the message is gone from your phone, unless a backup still holds it.
Make sure the next one isn't lost
- 01Turn on a daily backup in Settings > Chats > Chat backup, so the window between a message arriving and being backed up is as short as it can be.
- 02Turn on Android's own notification history (Settings > Notifications > Notification history). It keeps the notifications you dismissed in the last 24 hours, on phones that have it.
- 03For longer, use an app that keeps notifications as they arrive. AppLock Master keeps them for 7 days, 30 days or with no limit, with the photo when the notification carries one, on your phone and behind your passcode.
